I work as both an architect and an artist, and my painting practice grows out of an ongoing engagement with landscape. My background in architecture shapes how I think about structure, rhythm and composition, but my starting point stems from direct observations of the natural environment.
Each work evolves through a considered and layered process. Paintings weave intuitively, but not predictably, between representation and abstraction. This tension - between depiction and reduction - is at the core of my practice. I begin with familiar elements from the landscape, especially trees, slowly editing and overlaying to open possibilities not apparent with literal reproduction.
Colour balance and composition are tested, edges become softer, details merge, and the surface is worked to convey spatial depth and atmosphere. While the work moves steadily towards abstraction, it never relinquishes its connection, both formally and sensory, to lived experience of landscape.
